One of the biggest concerns in coming up with a long term food plan is the cost of packaging for longer shelf life.
We use Mylar resealable bags and oxygen absorbers, which answer the two major issues in storage. Mylar is not only durable but is also water- and moisture-proof. When the bag is sealed with the oxygen absorber inside, the oxygen is neutralized, thereby greatly slowing the aging of the food. Our food should last at least 5 years with no problems. When it is time to use your food pack, it can be opened and resealed for later use. Once it is opened, however, it should be consumed in a month or two for freshness.
We also have a service that will recycle your food that is one to two years old and give you fresh food. The food you trade in (which still has a 3–4-year shelf life) is sent to those in need. Our goal is to ensure that no food is wasted and is eaten by someone who needs it.
